Making a Difference for Children
For over 40 years our schools have given more than 12,000 children who live in and near Tijuana’s vast municipal garbage dumps a horizon beyond the smell, flies, and refuse.
In 2010, we opened our first school in Nicaragua and have been working hard to help these children gain an education so that they can break the cycle of poverty. We’ve helped over 6,500 students to date. By GIVING, you provide the children both an education and basic necessities to live and grow strong. Don’t wait, their future is in your hands:
Meet Our Children
Responsibility is dedicated to improving the lives of the children living around the Tijuana, Mexico and Matagalpa, Nicaragua garbage dumps by providing quality education. In the early 1980’s it was common for kids to scavenge food from the dump and bring it home for dinner. Today, thanks to people like you, our students get fed proper meals and go to school instead of go to work in the garbage dumps. In fact, in Mexico it is now against the law for children under the age of 14 to be in the dump.
In Matagalpa, in the morning the children attend their kindergarten classes. In the afternoon, we have an elementary school specifically designed for children who either work in the dump, dropped out of school, or had never attended class. Unfortunately, the never attended describes most of the kids who scavenge the city dump for survival.

“Everyone has a responsibility towards this larger family of man, but especially if you’re privileged, that increases your responsibility.” – Susan Sarandon
What if you and your family had to pick trash all day for a living?
our second school in nicaragua
The construction was completed in December 2010 … in 2011 we had an enrollment of 90 kindergarten students in the mornings and 86 elementary school students in the afternoon. Today, we have combined our efforts with another organization and together we have over 600 students. Our schools are geared towards the children who must work to help the families eke out a living.
